The Open Data Hackathon is a 3 day-long event devoted to collaborative creation and coding that will benefit HRM residents. Over the weekend, participants will pitch ideas, form teams, and build creative app prototypes for their community. Still confused? Check out this awesome video to learn more about hackathons.
Have you thought of a way to improve your community? This is another opportunity to bring your idea to life. You can pitch your idea during Friday’s opening night. You can even join a team to help build something useful and usable.
Just want to write some code to do some good? The Community has already identified lots of projects that you can work on. Just show up and we'll get you caffeinated and comfortable.
You can come to the Hackathon with your own team (company, club, university friends etc.) or form a team once you arrive!
Participants will have 24 hour access to the Volta building during the Hackathon.
Everyone is welcomed to attend. It is not mandatory to attend the event in order to submit an app to Apps4Halifax.
Friday night will kick off with mingling, introductions, idea pitching, and the forming of teams (5-8pm). After the forming of teams, teams can either start developing their app or decide to start fresh Saturday morning. Food and beverages will be provided throughout the entire event (Includes breakfast/lunch/supper/snacks).
5 minute presentations will be held Sunday at 4pm to present your app prototype and prizes will be awarded; prizes to be determined.
Judging will be performed by participant votes.
Halifax Regional Municipality will be partnering with Volta, a local startup house. Their vision is to create a place where entrepreneurship is celebrated and taking over the world is expected. They develop the best founders in the world, who in turn create world class companies.
